That’s where the right mod comes in-getting the proper tire to match those big wheels. That’s because your truck needs those big wheels, but you darn well better have the right tires on them. Yes, big wheels are pretty much a standard thing for any pickup truck, but you have to be really careful about them, and you definitely usually don’t want to swap out your factory set for massive custom ones. I know this sounds crazy, just like some of our other worst mods here, but it’s 100% true. Otherwise, there's no after-market or replacement spark plug that'll do anything extra or special for your truck. The only time ever you need to change the plugs is if they don’t work at all. Spark plugs are a yes (the vehicle started) or no (it didn’t start) proposition. But even really worn spark plugs still do their job, which is pretty simple-to turn on the combustion. Off-roaders do this all the time in the mistaken belief that spark plugs provide more power to the engine and thus the vehicle. I’m referring to the age-old trick of swapping out your factory or old spark plugs for a nice, new pair of “custom” plugs. Such is the case with this vaunted mod that everyone always wants to do on every car, especially big trucks that are gonna climb mountains and conquer the countryside. We start off our worst mods for your off-roader with a very particular idea to convince you that some mods, no matter how much you may have heard of them, are basically just urban (or rural, for that matter) myths. Hey, as far as I’m concerned, you can even chrome out your rockers, and I won’t tell anyone!

Some guys opt to go all out with half-inch steel rocker panels, but you can also upgrade without adding that much to your ride. Usually, your truck or jeep will come with rocker panels, but you can also get custom rockers that provide more protection by offering more thickness and structural integrity, like we see in the jeep above. Rocker protection isn’t fancy, but it's effective. That’s where one of the best mods you off-roaders are ever going to want comes in. A few dings and dimples on a vehicle that spends a lot of time off-roading are badges of honor, but a bashed-in side because a log flipped up and hit it isn’t it’s an expensive and potentially hazardous problem. But-and this is a big but-you’d also maybe, just maybe, protect the body of your ride just a little bit, I would think. Anyway, on to our best and worst off-road mods.Īs I said a few entries ago, the tires on your 4x4 probably take more strain and abuse than any other part of the car.

It kind of makes sense since an awful lot of trucks and jeeps spend plenty of time off-road either working hard or playing hard, right? We’ll see what the eight best off-roads mods are for your ride, and we’ll also take a look at the 8 worst, just so you know what to steer clear of-see what I just did right there? “Steer clear of.” I crack myself up I really do. So today, we're going to talk specifically about off-road modifications. are cool, fun, and tough, and there are a hell of a lot of mods your average 4x4 owner can do to his ride. I’ve written about them before, and I probably will again at some point. One class of vehicles I personally love writing (and talking) about are off-roaders. The whole point of a mod is to make that vehicle stand out or perform better, not for it to go unnoticed. You don’t hear about people who did some mod to their car that nobody ever noticed or cared about because that’s not how these babies work. People will either love your mod or hate your mod, and that’s just the plain, honest-to-goodness truth. There’s really no in-between in the world of car mods.

Once you make a modification to your vehicle, any vehicle, it’s either an awesome addition that improves your ride or a ridiculous addition that detracts from your ride. We write a lot about car mods here at Hot Cars because… well, because there are really only two ways you can go with a mod.
